Kenya is home to iconic wildlife and Africa's most sophisticated community-conservation movement. About 65% of Kenya's wildlife lives outside national parks, on community land.

Savannah (Mara, Amboseli, Laikipia, Samburu), montane forests (Aberdares, Mount Kenya, Mau, Kakamega), arid lands (Northern Rangelands, Tsavo), Rift Valley lakes, and coastal marine areas.

Who leads the work

Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service, KWCA and 230+ community conservancies, NGOs like WWF Kenya, WCS, AWF, Save the Elephants, and Northern Rangelands Trust.

Community conservancies

Over 6.36 million hectares under conservancy management — about 11% of Kenya. Conservancies fund themselves through tourism, carbon, and livestock enterprises.
