The Mara Elephant Project (MEP) is a conservation organization established to protect the elephants in the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. This special trip provides an overview of the innovative Elephant Friendly Farming Initiative meant for peaceful coexistence.

Your excursion starts with a scenic drive to the 5-acre MEP Experimental Farm, a 5-acre plot in a critical zone where elephant and human populations coexist directly. Elephants call home the protected area located here across the famous Mara River. Peaceful coexistence depends on knowing what draws elephants to raid adjacent farms. Under the guidance of a driven team, you will start a guided farm tour, learning about the challenges that local farmers face and the challenges crop raiding has on people and elephants.

  • Meet farm manager Abigael Pertet and hear her firsthand experiences and perspectives on living alongside elephants. Here you’ll learn about the most promising crops for deterring elephants and promoting human-elephant harmony.
  • Wrap up your tour with a Q&A session and the opportunity to take photos (ensure minimal disruption to the farm environment).
  • Depart from the MEP Experimental Farm with a newfound appreciation for the complexities of human-elephant coexistence and the innovative solutions being explored by the Mara Elephant Project.

  • The $500 all - inclusive donation paid to MEP
  • Mara Elephant Project has an educational mandate, which aligns with our core mission that allows for guests to visit our headquarters to see MEP's presentation and meet MEP staff. These experiences will be available at 10 a.m. on a weekday and no minimum donation is required.
  • Mara Elephant Project can provide bespoke experiences for interested donors. This can include a visit to camp for tea and coffee and a presentation from a key MEP staff member, which would give guests private access to learn more about our work. We would ask for a minimum donation of $1,000 per group for this experience.

  • You can cancel and get a full refund if you do it at least 7 days before the experience starts. If you book more than 48 hours before the start time, you can also cancel within 24 hours of booking for a full refund.
